North West Seniors Golf League

AGM Longridge Golf Club

Bright sunshine and a light breeze welcomed the players to Jeffery Hill, Longridge for the annual AGM, the 25th in the League's history.
The annual General Meeting commenced at 9:30am with the League Secretary Nigel Fairhurst opening proceedings with the introduction of the Club Captain from Longridge Andy Walling. He welcomed the assembled players and gave a brief resume of the Captain's 2023
Charity, something he enthusiasticly 'sold'all day. Well doen Andy and all taht contributed.
The meeting started with a report from the Secretary who welcomed all the players from Hindley HallGC, in their first season in the league, and gave a report on the 2022 season won by Longridge.
The accounts were presented that showed a small loss in 2022., due to higher than anticipated catering costs. This will be recovered in 2023, the accounts accepted by a total majority.
The first proposal received seven days prior to the AGM, by Longridge GC, was that the course distance be revrted to the white courses (except Berrington Hall GC). A vote was taken and by a majority of 22 to 4 was won and has been implimented with immediate effect.

Propsal two from Berrington Hall GC was to reduce the age limit for players to 50 years. This was debated and rejected by the assembled League members.
Tony Robinson sought clarification regarding submisson of the away players order to the home team, prior to the match day.
Contributions from David Ellis (ELGA Secretary) and Paul Hunter, helped the members understand where we should act. After a vote it was agreed that it is not a requirement to submit player prior to the day of play.
Tony Robinson also asked if the League rules etc should be published on the website. The Secretary agreed and would impliment.
The meeting closed at 9:58am.

Whilst the weather was remarkably kind the players in the morning, rain did spoil some players game, but later returned to warm sunshine.
Early team leaders posted 85 points, then another two cards on the same score were recevied and card play-offs were being considered. However a card received with 95 points soon sent the rule book to the bag.

Messers Hughes, Skeet, Stokes and Baingridge secured the 95 points, 46 out and 49 back was a fantastic score. The latter Derek
Bainbridge (Burnley GC) was making is league debut, after recently retiring.
Second on 88 points were Stewart Brooks, Alan Ferguson, Bernie Blood and Dave Hawsworth.43 out and 45 out was a great effort.
Freeman, Nicholson, Grey and Barrett came third with again a creditable 87 points.

Players ate once their rounds were completed with a beer in the grond floor Restaurant.
A massive thank you to Sara her husband Marc and daughter Kerry for their efforts in providing a great meal and hospitality.
Also a big thank you again for the golf shop staff for resolving a missunderstanding on tee times, made my role easy.

Sad to report that the League President for 2022/2023 Jim Clegg who was invited to attend and speak, had a big set back to his health and I was concerned for his health. After numerous telephone calls, found that Jim had been admitted to Preston Royal after a complication. I spoke with his late last night and sent him our love and best wishes from everyone at the NWSL.
