2024 AGM minutes and details of the League accounts; the Secretary detailing the present position of the League.
The Annual General Meeting was held at Hart Common GC on Tuesday 7th May and was attended by League club members and their team organisers.
The meeting opened at 9am by the League Secretary and as there were no apologies and no challenges to the League Secretary, Nigel Fairhurst was appointed as League Secretary for 2024.
Berrington Hall GC and Burnley GC had indicated during 2023 that they did not have an organiser for 2024 and have left the League. Disappointing, particularly Burnley GC who are League founder members.
Prior to the AGM notices of the intended constitutional changes were made and submitted to a vote by the teams. Only the Club representative can vote having canvased their members.
The results are:
· Longridge GC and League Secretary propose League Fees increase to £125.00p from 2025. This was unanimously accepted.
· Longridge GC propose play from White tees. This was rejected.
· Longridge GC propose that the away points remain 3. This was passed by a majority.
· Mytton Fold and Hart Common GC that play is from yellow tees. This was passed by a majority decision.
· Mytton Fold GG propose that the maximum WHS Index of 24. This was rejected by a majority decision.
· Hart Common GC want a return to 2 points for away wins not 3. This was rejected by a majority decision.
The Constitution will be changed accordingly and will be uploaded to the website.
Clarification of the handicap calculations was discussed and agreed that Tony Robinson and Alan Rogers would provide the Secretary with a definitive paragraph to post on the website for clarification.
The Secretary then submitted the League Accounts for 2023 showing an income of £3,397.00p and expenditure of £3,754.00p resulting in a loss of £357.00p. This will improve by 2025 with the removal of the website costs (£180 in 2024) where the website is self-managed and we now own the domain name.
Following the AGM the traditional four-man team event took place from 10:16 through to 12:50 and we are grateful to Mr. Peter Roberts; who is League President; for the use of the course and facilities.
The course was in great condition, in no small part the robot grass cutting machines that wander the course cutting the large expanse that is Hart Common GC. Peter was telling me that he had just purchased a further three robots that now brings the ‘team’ to fourteen, but was somewhat preoccupied by the evening game at the Toughsheet Stadium between his beloved Bolton Wanderers FC and Barnsley FC in the playoff semi-final. Thanks to Peter; Janet in the kitchen and George front of house for their hospitality.
Winners of the Four-Man team event were the last team out, consisting of Nigel Grice (Wilpshire), Jeff Wainright (Hurlston Hall), Andy Skeet (Hindley Hall) and Tim Sherry (Longridge). Their score of 92 points won the event on a card playoff from Bob Doxey, L. Edmondson, John Hindle and James Milner. Third place went to Andrew Tillotson, T. Magnall, Steve Worrall and Dave Smith who managed 90 points.
Thanks also to Tony Robinson and Chris Radcliffe for the organisation and support for this event.
