Congratulations to Longridge GC on being champions 2025 and well played Wilpshire GC for being only 2 points behind.
Martin writes:
The title match day decider had arrived with both teams on 99 point's a winner takes all
This rearranged fixture from the beginning of the season was a tense affair with the weather playing its part as it does often do at Longridge after a two-hour delay, we finely got under way.
Match 1 saw home side Roger Cain and Dave Carling take on Alain Knott and late replacement Steve Caswell very tight game with the difference being Roger's putting who made 2 two's and holed everything in sight and they finally ran out 2up winners.
So, first blood to the home side
Match 2 saw Martin Gray and Shaun Graham take on John Glynn and Craig Currie a tight match until the 8th when the away side pulled away with a barrage of birdies 4 in all and ran out winners 5 & 4, well played Wilpshire 1 match each.
Match 3 saw home side Jez Morgan and Paul Greenall take on away captain Brendan Barrett and Paul Hunter with home sides Jez Morgan giving away 14 shots well aided by Paul the home side ran out 2&1 Victor's Longridge now had a1 point lead going into match 4.
Match 4 saw home pairing Jed Forest and Dave Kelly take on Lenny Gillett and Jack Taylor this match went down to the wire with the away side holding on to their advantage and securing a 1-hole victory the match now turned into Wilpshire’s favour score 6 points to 4.
Match 5 saw home side Ged Dewhurst and Paul Oliver take on Ken Craven and Dave Shorrock with Ken giving away 10 shots they were no match for the home side who ran out 6&4 winners well played boys
The match score now 6 all.
So down to the last match to decide the league what a way to finish a hard fort season
Match 6
Home side Michael Dennison and Tim Sherry with his first outing of the season after breaking his ankle take on Kevin Young and Gerry Girvan this again was a tight match all the way the home side managing to eke out a 2 shot lead on 16 finally winning 3& 1 so Longridge retain their league title once more.

Hindley Hall GC v Longridge GC Tuesday 26th August 2025
Hi All,
To all captains or organisers from each team well done through the season for your hard work we’ve been lucky this year with weather etc and for the season to be decided on very last game is fantastic .
Today Hindley Hall GC welcomed and played Longridge GC first we started in sunshine the after a hour sadly we got some rain which thankfully only lasted 30 minutes then back into sunshine.
1. Glyn Jones/Colin White v Jeremy Morgan / Paul Green all the game was apparently very tight all way through nip & tuck but thankfully home team won 2-1.
2. Keith Stokes/Kev Leyland v Alister Sheret / Martyn Grey I would like to say it was a close match but apparently home team were on fire 3/4 birdies rushed into a big lead so they won 4-3.
3.Les Edwardson/Mick Lowe v David Kelly/ Ged Forrest from 9 was quite close home team turning 1 up then they went into which looked a unstoppable lead to go 3 up 4 to go but not lying down away team fought back to get a half for away team.
4 Gary Matthews/Phil Mercer v Roger Cain/David Carling trust me this was a very tight game and a game probably didn’t deserve a loser home team turned 1 up then they went 2 up then yet again away team fought back to get match back to 1 were it stayed that way from the 11th to the very last putt for a home team win.
5.Anthony Skeat/mick McCarthy v Trev Walker/Gerrard Dewhurst yet again very tight game home team went 2 up 3 to go away team fought back to snatch a half on the last putt of the game.
6.graham Rigby/Trev Hartley v Andrew Tilloston/Micheal Denniston the same pattern as many more the away team were just to strong for the home team as Micheal Denniston was outstanding today great win for away team 2-1.
I’ve really enjoyed the season meeting some fabulous golfers and great guys thanks for the season look forward to Presidents Day in September. Final score was 8-5 Hindley Hall to finish season 3rd yet again.
The Secretary writes:
By far the fastest results from Gary Mattews at 14:41, thanks Gary and what a game, every game close and as always played with great camaraderie; whilst Gary has not sent his personal message I can see from the results and handicaps how close and competitive the match was.
And so, we have it, the closest League table since 2014 with both Longridge GC and Wilpshire GC both on 99 points, with Longridge GC in first place by virtue of a draw at Wilpshire earlier in the season.
Hindley Hall GC 8 points v Longridge GC 5 points.
Longridge GC v Hurlston Hall GC Thursday 21st August
Today Longridge GC at Jeffery Hill hosted Hurlston Hall GC following their fine victory at Hindley Hall GC, with the weather set fair and little wind the prospect of some fine golf. That is exactly what transpired.
In the first game, Steve Brooks and Jed Forrest played against Andy Hall and Jame Milner. An extremely close game with the players all square on the 18th tee. However, the home pair prevailed with a win on the 18th green.
Second game saw Martin Grey and Andy Sheret play against Ray Moses and Rod Duval. Three up after nine holes the home pair looked strong, however on the back nine Ray and Rod fought back to claim a draw.
Ged Dewhurst and Dave Green took on Hurlston pairing of Lee Saunders and David Williams, the latter pair securing a great away win from players not the usual Hurlston regulars in the League, well played.
Match four saw ever present Andre Tillotson and Trevor Walker take on Senior’s organiser for HH Leigh McEvoy and Gary Aldmond winning a creditable 2 & 1 victory.
Fifth match had home pair of Paul Oliver and Andrew Bibby take on retired Police officer David Neil-Beyers (He retired that long ago, he cannot remember which force he was in!) and Derek Doyle. The home pair producing some fine golf with seven nett birdies, winning 3 & 2.
Finally, Dougie Easton and Keith Horam played against Andrew Cadley and Neil Burke, Dougie and Keith emerging winners 2 & 1.
Martin writes also a big thank you to Dave Green, Andrew Bibby, Keith Horam and Dougie Eaton for playing for the Club at the last minute.
Longridge GC 9 points v Hurlston Hall GC 4 points
So, over to Dean Wood where Wilpshire GC play for the first time in the League and need a result to take their final League game away at Longridge; who before that have an away fixture at Hindley Hall GC.

Hart Common GC v Mytton Fold GC Tuesday 19th August
The commoners eagerly awaited the arrival of Myton Fold, this match would decide who wins the wooden spoon, a prize that neither side would relish to win.
On exchange of team sheets Alan and I quickly calculated The Commoners had an hard task ahead. Hart Commons team having an average Index of 12.6
compared to Mytton Fold who’s average index was19.2, the difference itself indicates although Hart Common had better players it doesn’t mean they were guaranteed a win.
The Total shots Hart Common would get was 35 compared to Mytton Folds 116 the difference being 81 shots.
A “senior moment”
At least I have one record this year, the quickest to send a match result back to Nigel.
Also, the rumour is true I forgot to tee off. We were walking up the 5th fairway, looking ahead I thought I’m sure I hit my ball further than that, quickly noticing I could only see 3 balls, I felt in my pocket and to my embarrassment I had forgot to tee off.
1st Match
Tony Robinson (0) & Kevin Sykes (9) of Hart Common beat Mick Mahaon (15) & Ged Forrest (15) 3&2.
2nd Match:
Tom Aspey (0) & John Armstrong (5) of Hart Common beat Gary Aldred (1) & Chris Quinn (7) 2Up.
3rd Match:
Dave Smith (0) & Eric Dawber (6) of Hart Common lost to Alan Rogers (13) & Rupert Frost (10) 2&1.
4th Match:
Roy Smith (0) & Chris Radcliffe (7) of Hart Common lost to Sam Cowan (13) & Tony Monks (14) 3&2.
5th Match:
Steve Edmonds (0) & Chris Freeman (6) of Hart Common lost to Mick Bryon (6) & Ewan Mcenzie (12) 4&3.
6th Match:
Nigel Nettelfield (0) & Phil Hawker (2) of Hart Common lost to Angus Barr (5) & Peter Sharpe (5) 2 down.
Overall score: 4 to 12
Conclusion:
I think the shots we were giving to Mytton Fold proved too many, this is a regular occurrence when we field a lower handicap team.
The game was played in a friendly manner and we can look forward to the Presidents Day and see if we can finish with some silverware.
Tony Robinson & Chris Radcliffe

Hindley Hall GC v Hurlston Hall GC Tuesday 19th August 2025
Gary Matthews writes:
Today Hindley Hall welcomed Hurlston Hall weather played ball fine conditions
1.Colin White/Anthony Skeat played Owen McCan away pair won convincingly 5-4 sadly Anthony wasn’t well with a stomach upset and we tried to get a replacement couple hours before but no one available so he played so he wouldn’t let the team down away pair played really well
2. Keith Stokes/Kevin Leyland played Lee Saunders / Neil Burkhill the Hindley pairing started really well 3 up after 6 holes never put under pressure win convincingly 5-4.
3.Keith Aspey/ Trevor Hartley played Martin Isherwood/David Williamson the game started well for Hindley 1up for most of the game until away team won 3 on the trot to win 2-1
4. Gary Matthews/mick McCarthy played Leigh McEvoy/Baz Almond the game was nip and tuck until the turn Gazza with is 11 shots was knocking putts in as if home player eventually the game got level on 11th then the turning point came away team with shots won 12/13th to go 2 up home team got it back to 1 mick chipped on the 15 for a 3 then on 16 Gazza again with a shot which he didn’t no he had until Gary told him to go 2up dormy Gary yet again sunk a 20 foot putt for a half to win the game 2-1
5. Glyn Jones/Mick Tickle played David O’Neil Bayers/Ray Moses yet again away team started on fire were 3up after 5 David played really well only dropping 3 shots to win 5-4.
6.Ste Hampson/Mick Lowe played Andrew Corley/ Chris Lawless the home team were on fire 7up after 8 holes game was over shortly after home team won 6-5
Sadly, the result was 4-12 to Hurlston hall hopefully all played in right spirit home team no answer with the number of shots they were giving great result for away team. I know I’m going to have a moan but I think this 90% of difference just seems so unfair for the lower players giving lots of shots every game it kind of makes a mockery in my opinion it’s hard giving up to 13 shots regularly rant over but not happy. Thanks to Leigh McEvoy for a great day thanks.
EDITORS NOTE: Gary, I suggest you ask that the handicap rule be changed at the AGM. You do have a valid point but what would we change it too.
Hindley Hall GC 4 points v Hurlston Hall GC 12 points
Longridge GC v Mytton Fold GC Thursday 14th August 2025
Longridge Golf Club entertained Mytton Fold and with glorious sunshine the players could see theire course below and the result might think that they would rather be a home!
Players names to follow as Martin has sent the results on Whatapp that will not open, so no prizes for early reports. Current leader is Brendan Barrett from Wilpshire GC who submitted his yesterday at 15:58, impressive.
Martin writes belatedley:
Today was Mytton Fold turn visit Longridge with the weather set fair a good day was in prospect with this being one of our catch up matches.
With Wilpshire having a fine victory over Hindley we knew we needed to produce something special to keep on their tails.
Looking at the 2 team sheets I knew it wasn’t going to be easy with us giving so many shots.
Game 1 saw Shaun Graham and Andrew Tilottson taking on Angus Barr and Chris Quinn with the home side coming out 6&5 victors.
Game 2 saw Captain Martin Gray and Alistair Sheret taking on Geoff Holton and stand in Paul waring another home victory 5&4.
Game 3 saw Stephen Brooks and Ged Dewhurst take on Mytton Captain Alan Rogers and Rupert Frost a hard thought victory for the home side 3&1.
Game 4 Saw Jez Morgan and Dave Carling take on Mick Bryan and Ewan McKenzie with Jez giving 13 shots away the home side produced a fine 4&3 victory, well played boys.
Game 5 saw ever dependable Dave Kelly and Jed Forrest take on Gary Aldred and Sam Cowan with the home side running out winners 3&2.
Game 6 Freddrick Squires and Michael Dennison take on Mick Mahon and Petr Main this was a really tight game that went to the 18th with the home side managing to hang on to 1up victory.
So, a clean sweep for Longridge a result that puts us right on the coat tails of Wilpshire GC.
Well played everybody.
Martin Gray Seniors Team Captain.

Hindley Hall GC v Dean Wood GC Tuesday 22nd July 2025

Paul Latham played excellent for away players to make 4-5 over par Paul Vernazza struggled with rain on front 9 and a few slips on the surface lucky not injured. I think Paul Vernazza must have paid is membership in full at Hindley as he got so many members bounces but is luck finally ended thankfully myself and Mick Lowe win on the last, with Mick winning the game on the last.

Longridge GC v Hindley Hall GC Thursday 17th July 2025
Following the earlier rain in the week, Jeffery Hill could be seen from my house in Waddington. Clear skies for a change. Its saw Hindley Hall visit the reining League Champions and gave a good account for the Hindley team.
Martin Grey writes:
Today we welcomed inform Hindley Hall to Longridge expecting a hard thought encounter and that is what we got, Hindley forgot to bring the weather with them as it remained drizzly all day at least there was very little wind a rarity.
First off saw home team Dave Kelly and Jed Forest take on Harry Roocroft and Phil Mercer a very tight match ensued except for the putting of Jed who apparently never missed a thing all day with the home side running out 3 & 1 winners.
Match 2, saw Home Captain Martin Gray and Alistair Sheret take on Les Edmondson and Ray Ward a very tight match up to the turn after which the home side managed to push in front and finally running out winners 4 & 3
Match 3, saw Steve Brooks and Ged Dewhurst take on Colin White and Anthony Skeat the home side managed to get a 3-hole lead with 5 to play but back came Hindley to square the match on 17 so up the last they went all square and with affine par on 18 Hindley turned the match on its head to earn a fine 1up victory well done to them.
Match 4, saw Tim Forest and Dave Carling take on away Captain Gary Matthews and Trev Hartley a very tight match ensued never more than 1 hole in it until the 17th when Hindley managed to win 2 & 1
Match 5, saw Jez Morgan and Paul Greenall take on Glyn Jones and Paul Web another tight match ensued with the difference being Pauls putting and the home side running out winners 3 & 2
Match 6, saw unbeaten pairing Andrew Tillotson and Lenny Wright take on Graham Rigby and Mick McCarthy the home side raced into an early lead and never looked back running out 7 & 6 winners well done boys more of the same next week please.
So, the match score was 8pts to Longridge and 6pts to Hindley all players commented on the fantastic condition of the course.

Yet again Dean Wood field on paper an extremely strong side with their lowest handicap golfer David Sim (2.8) again playing as with Mark Sobey (16.7) gave hope for the other league teams that Longridge GC could be stalled in their quest for another League title.
Great weather on a superb parkland course saw Jamie Nixon and Ian Childs recording a great and welcome win against triple bypass legend Jez Morgan and ever-present Trevor Walker 5 & 4.
Dave Jenkins (9.6) and Keith Molyneux (16.4) also record a win against Alistair Sheret a Longridge Seniors organiser Martin Grey 4 & 2.
Another 5 & 4 win came in the third game where good friend Ged Forrest and David Kelly were given a golf lesson from Daid Sima and Dougie Ashall.
Organiser Adrian Brown and partner Harry Milligan suffered a 2 & 1 defeat to former double-glazing director (he is a nice guy) Roger Cain and former organiser (we will not miss his speeches) Dave Carling.
The two Paul’s Burton and Latham came up against Gerald Dewhurst and Robert Robinson giving a great fight but succumbing two-hole loss.
Finally retired director and single figure golfer Tim Forrest and partner Andrew Moreton recorded a 4 & 3 win against Robert Crane and Mark Sobey.
A great fight from the home team but the away points rule favoured Longridge GC.
Result Dean Wood GC 6 points v Longridge GC 9 points
Wilpshire GC v Hart Common GC Wednesday 9th July 2025

Holiday camp specialist John Glynn and shoe magnet Andy Rouke smiled and danced past the likeable pair of Steve Edmonds and Chris Radcliffe with a 5 & 4 win.
Airport transport specialist Alain Knott partnered debutante to the NWSL the very likeable builder and narrow boat owner Paul Gilson (10) steadied their game but had a half against nice guys Roy Smith (8) and Mark Royle.

The last game was a close affair with Clitheroe dentist Steve Schofield and part time teacher put their skills against Shaun Royle and Tony Whitehead recording a 2 & 1 win, Shaun and Steve both off ten handicaps so well matched.
Well dome Wilpshire with this result sending them to the top of the league by way of less matches played.

Superb weather greeted the boys from over the M61 to Langho where Seniors Captain was on holiday and former Club Captain Gary Aldred had the captain’s role. Gary’s team report no doubt the fastest to report, thanks Gary.
First game saw ever present Steve Worrall and Sam Cowan against Harry Roocroft and Mick McCarthy, with the away players recording a 3 & 2 win. Second out David Proctor and Tony Monks held their nerve against low men Gary Matthews and Les Edwardson, using their handicaps to overcome the top players 2 up.
Gary Aldred and Phil Chadwick had a great 6 & 5 win against Trev Hartley and Ray Ward.
Mick Mahon, back from some great golf in the Prestbury run Maxitours event, partnered Peter Main to record a half against Phil Mercer and Paul Webb. Geoff Holtom and John Hindle suffered a tough defeat against Colin White and Mick Lowe losing 5 & 3. Parity restored for the home team with rarely beaten Mick Bryan and partner Ewan McKenzie recorded a 2 & 1 win against Keith Stokes (8 handicap) and Andrew Skeat.

Mytton Fold GC v Longridge GC 26th June 2025
The idea of a flaming June was soon dismissed at Langho this morning with rain and the a small degree of sunshine that gave a false feeling of warm weather, together with a strong wind made for difficult course conditions. The writer playing down the road at Wilpshire had three showers one heavy that must have tested even the most ardent player.
Anyway, first out for Mytton Fold were Mick Bryan (Mr model rail enthusiast) partnering Ewen McKenzie against ever reliable Fred Squires and Gerrard Dewhurst. The home pair winning 2&1 in a close game.
Rupert Frost and Mark Jones were cold shouldered by Shaun Graham and Martin Grey losing by one with Mark from Mytton giving the shots.
Gary Aldred (fresh from playing on the Maxi Tour with Mick Mahon) and Phil Chadwick lost to one of the best players in the League, former Lancashire Seniors Champion, Jez Morgan and Paul Greenall; the away pair winning 3 & 2.
Former Kirby salesman Ged Forrest and Dave Kelly narrowly lost to great guys Mick Mahon and Peter Main 1 up.
Steve Worrall and Chris Quinn lost 3 & 2 to the wonderful Roger Cain and marmite (love or hate) Dave Carling.
Tony Monks and John Hindle lost 2 & 1 to Andrew Tillotson and Lenny Wright. Lenny has been a long-standing player in the NWSL and rarely beaten.
So, watch out the other teams, Longridge are on the march, playing catch up.

Hurlston Hall GC v Hindley Hall GC Monday 23rd June.
A mainly sunny but very windy day greeted today's teams for the battle of the HHs. Behind the scenes, the Company scrambled to cover for the fact that they had failed to reserve our tee times, and were so successful that I doubt anyone else noticed, apart from some bemused 'random' golfers who wondered why they had to start on the 10th tee. So, on a much-improved course, no delay to our fixture and the blustery day remained dry, to everyone's relief. The results are below.
1. Andy Wilson & John Walker won 2 up against Harry Rosecroft & Phil Mercer
2. Lee Saunders & James Milner won 4 & 3 against Colin White & Berni Blood
3. Mark Rimmer & Chris Orritt won 1 up against Trev Hartley & Ray Ward
4. Leigh McEvoy & Tom Kavanagh lost 3 & 2 to Keith Stokes & Brian Hill
5. Dave O'Neill-Bayes & Tony Williams won 4 & 3 against Gary Matthews & Kev Leyland
6. Ray Moses & Tony Rice won 3 &2 against Mick McCarthy & Paul Webb
Five wins to Hurlston and one to Hindley.so the result 10 - 3 to Hurlston.

The weather for this encounter was overcast turning to rain by the end of the match I
must commend those that finished in the rain for their commitment and attitude as 3

Wilpshire GC v Dean Wood GC Wednesday 11 th June 2025
Fabulous warm weather greeted the teams at Wilpshire this morning as Dean Wood played their first match at Wilpshire. League Secretary was wandering the course seeing how games were progressing and Seniors Organiser Brendan Barratt wrote after his game with partner President Paul Hunter.
“I played with Paul against Paul and Paul who were the winter league winners at Dean Wood for the last two years and one Paul had 2 birds on the front 9 and 2 on the back; as time went on, they informed us that they had won the winter league 7 times; in the game Paul Burton had 5 birdies and an albatross.”
But they both were brilliant with a 6/5 win.
Other results benefited the home side, first out John Glynn and Craig Currie continued their successful partnership with a 3 & 2 win against Keith Roby and Ian Childs both of whom are tidy golfers off 13 handicap each.
Second game saw 8 handicapper Richard Dawson and Alain Knott get the better of Derek Jolly (10) and Rob Crane (8) one up after being two up after 9 holes and Richard have a great birdie on the 13th after driving the green from the tee.

Hurlston Hall v Longridge Monday 9th June
Hurlston welcomed bottom of the table Longridge (oh, it's so nice to type that!) for a titanic clash between last year's champions and the runners-up. Ok, so Longridge had only played one game as opposed to most team's four, and there's a chance that position might improve after a few more matches! Some titanic struggles ensued, with both teams drawing blood in well-played and tight matches. Again, the away points system was the deciding factor, as the results below show.
1. James Milner & Peter Gaunt lost 5 and 3 to David Kelly and Ged Forrest
2. Bernie Grady & Ray Moses lost 3 and 2 to Alastair Sherratt and Team Captain Martin Gray
3. Chris Lawless & Stephen Robinson lost 2 and 1 to Jeremy Morgan and Paul Greenhall
4. Leigh McEvoy & Dave Williamson won 4 and 3 against Shaun Graham and Andrew Morton
5. Mark Rimmer & Owen McCann won 3 and 2 against Roger Cain and Dave Carling
6. Andrew Cadley & John Walker won 2 and 1 against Simon Clarke and Andy Walling
So, each team won three games, but the result is 6 - 9 to Longridge, who will I expect be off the bottom of the league! Well done to Longridge.

Mr Jim Bridge
Sad to hear of the passing of Jim Bridge from Mytton Fold GC. Jim was a stalwart member at Mytton Fold GC, was Captain and friends to the Hargreaves family who own the golf club. Charismatic funny, always available to play, even though he often was not the first choice with a character that if you mentioned his name in company, I always smiled as I can fondly recall his visits to auctions and how he transported purchases home. I believe his funeral is on the 6th June and hope to attend.
The home Club welcomed Hurlston Hall players at a very wet Langho course and played.
First out Peter Main and John Hindle who struggled against Chris Lawless and David Williamson 4 & 3.
Second game saw Geoff Holtom and Chris Quinn also lose by the same score 4 & 3 to the Hurlston pair of Gary Almond and Peter Gaunt.

It was great to see familiar faces back at Hart Common, saying that it was easy to remember the faces as it was only the week before we played Hurlston at their course. Wilpshire GC v Mytton Fold GC Wednesday 21st May 2025
As the warm May weather continued, Wilpshire GC welcomed locals Mytton Fold GC to the Lango Course. The long dry spell ensured fast and long balls off the fairway and tricky greens that had not been cut for a week to preserve the grass.
Game One Kevin Young; still smarting after beloved Man City’s Cup Final loss; along with Gerry Girvan failed to keep a winning start losing one down to past Captain Gary Aldred and Phil Chadwick.
Game Two Ever reliable Ken Craven and Jack Taylor, overcame Geoff Holtom and Tony Monks 2 and 1, after double figure handicap allowances for the away players.
Game Three Dave Hawksworth and Richard Dawson also suffered a home defeat to likable Mick Mahon and Peter Main, 1 up.
Game Four Alan Rogers and Peter Sharpe suffered the heavy defeat 6 and 4 to the reliable John Glynn and Craig Currie. Both long ball specialists who would have enjoyed the firm fairways.
